My 2013 reading. Mini reviews and ratings. Highly questionable, really.  For what it’s worth…Books 2013

By which, of course, I mean really impressive, not least because although the list is long you omit those books which failed to engage you. My New Year resolution was to keep track with a book log, so thanks for the prompt. I will struggle to keep up. Size isn’t everything, but…. Thanks for some useful steers, Sorro.

Great list. I’m not great at writing reviews, so I’ll just list a few of my recent 5* reads if you’re stuck for ideas:
*The Shaddow of the Wind – Carlos Ruiz Zafon
*The Kite Runner – Khaled Hosseini
    *Midnights Children – Salmon Rushdie
*A Thousand Splendid Suns – Khaled Hosseini
*I Am Pilgrim – Terry Hayes
*The Book Thief – Markus Zusak
    *The Help – Kathryn Stockett

Don’t want to sound pretentious but I have read all these and it’s a great list. Carlos Ruiz Zafon does a good line in gothic fantasy and Shadow of the Wind is definitely the best but all his books are being, slowly, translated. Of all these the Kite Runner enthused me most. Just seen the Book Thief film which I enjoyed almost as much as the book…

Ha, I heard The Book Thief film was horrendous… Everyone is allowed a clanger in their favourites!

One man’s clanger is another is another man’s secret pleasure. There was something eerily atmospheric about the deserted Empire Sutton cinema that wet Thursday afternoon…..
